What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Homeowners undertaking extensions, conservatories and period property repairs have made up much of the customer base for D.M. Wright Plastering on Fanshawe Road in Cambridge. Dominic is named in nearly every review, with jobs ranging from internal dry lining and external rendering on a vaulted extension to coving installation requiring specialist equipment and conservatory roof plastering. Several reviews describe neat, smooth results with tidy finishing and clear communication about scheduling and progress. Repeat custom is evident, with more than one customer noting they had used the business previously without issue before a more recent job caused frustration.

A couple of reviews raise concerns about a proposed repair to cracked render being upgraded into a full re-render of the property, which some felt was unaffordable given the scope of the original request, and about a ceiling skim over artex that reportedly left high points visible after painting. These accounts describe delays in returning to address the issues before an agreed deadline. Earlier work, including dry lining, coving and general plastering, is consistently described as professional and completed on time. The business does not list set opening hours, though reviews span both recent and long-standing projects across the local area.

We needed a plasterer for our conservatory roof. Very professional service and excellent communication to arrange a day to come and complete the work. We were impressed by the finish of the job and how he cleaned up afterwards too. Would definitely recommend and would have back for any future jobs! Thank you so much!

Terrible experience. Their skim over our artex ceiling wasn't great, with high points from the artex still clearly visible. They asked us to paint the ceiling anyway, assuring us it'd mask the issues. So we wasted time painting and of course it didn't conceal it at all (see pictures). Then it was stressful trying to get them to come back before Christmas. There were a couple of other issues they agreed to fix, but we'd need to wait longer as they had to wait for some parts. When they eventually came back, they made up an excuse why the parts wouldn't work for our situation. The reason didn’t make sense so I asked for a link to the parts so I could verify myself, at which point they back-peddled and were forced to admit they simply didn't think it was their responsibility to fix these issues. This is our experience throughout the entire job. They say they'll do something then make up a reason why they can't actually do it. When we point out faults in their logic they'll change their reasons to something else. We parted on very bad terms. On a final note they said they'd transfer me £300 since we got into a big argument and they left without fixing the original issues. I never saw the money. Just a final example of them not following through. Would not recommend. EDIT: To be clear, the before image of the hole was already there prior to the job and they were supposed to patch it. They did NOT make that hole. The after image is after their fix.

It really saddens me to leave this review but months later we still are feeling quite aggrieved. We'd used Dom for a number of jobs previously and been very happy so when we had a very large crack develop in our render on the back wall, we had no hesitation in going direct to Dom and not getting other quotes. But rather than repairing that section of wall, Dom wanted to re-render the whole house, which we absolutely can't afford. We know it would look nice but we're not the sort of people who have £30k lying around spare. Then he suggested re-rendering the whole back wall, which we still couldn't afford. After lots of back and forth, he finally agreed to repair just the crack and plaster that section of wall. He asked for a deposit, which we paid. But then we had to wait months for the job actually to be done, then scaffolding finally went up and was standing all along the back wall for absolutely ages with nothing happening, and repeated visits from Dom where little was actually achieved as there was no sustained focus on the job. Eventually they got it done because the scaffolding was due to come down finally. It was all really stressful and inconvenient and it seemed clear that our job was not a priority. It turned out that the area of loose plaster was smaller than Dom expected and I feel we were charged a lot for what was actually done (he still expected us to pay the full original quote which was steep). The patch is unfortunately quite visible and ugly - we expected it wouldn't be perfect but I think a bit more care and time could have been taken with blending it in. Not a good experience unfortunately.

Dominic took on an awkward coving job for us that we struggled to find anyone for as it required special equipment. He was great at keeping us updated and completed the job as promised. Highly recommended!

Fantastic job, really pleased. Did internal dry lining and plastering and external rendering to a large single storey extension with part vaulted ceiling. Looks brilliant, nice smooth plaster and neat corners. The best plastering I have had done so I can thoroughly recommend them.

Dom was great, sorting out the artex on the ceiling. The job was done to a high standard and on time too. We wanted a fireplace put back in the chimney breast, and he was able to square off the inner surfaces. Walls were also done quickly and neatly. Good comms through out.
