Johnstone's Decorating Centre

Johnstone's Trade, part of the PPG portfolio of brands, has had a presence in the market since 1890. The company operates as PPG Architectural Coatings UK Limited. Johnstone's Trade specialises in trade paints, woodcare, performance coatings, external wall insulation and render systems. PPG, founded in 1883 as Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, and specialty materials.

Trade and DIY customers alike come to this Osmaston Road decorating centre for paint mixing, colour matching and general decorating supplies. Feedback consistently highlights staff knowledge, with reviewers describing quick and accurate colour matches and clear guidance on which products suit a particular job. Service is repeatedly described as friendly, professional and efficient, with several customers noting they were able to get everything required in a single visit without delay. Pricing is mentioned as reasonable, and more than one reviewer commented on good value alongside the quality of the paints stocked.

The range extends to ladders, protective clothing and general tools alongside paint, reflecting the centre's position as a broader decorating supplies outlet rather than a paint-only counter. Customers returning on multiple occasions describe consistency in both product quality and the standard of advice given at the counter. Early weekday opening from 7am suits tradespeople starting jobs early, while Saturday hours until midday allow domestic customers to call in before the weekend gets underway. The branch is closed on Sundays, and the combination of long weekday hours and knowledgeable staff appears to be what keeps both trade and domestic customers returning to this Derby counter for their decorating materials.
