KAS Lime Plastering

We could not recommend Karen highly enough. The whole process was completely smooth from start to finish. Her quote was clear, transparent and impressively accurate, with no surprises along the way. She arrived punctually every day, worked incredibly hard and never disappeared early. The quality of her lime plastering is excellent, and the care she took over every detail and finishing touch was exquisite. She repointed our rather damp basement and while we originally planned a limewash finish, the quality of the pointing is so good that we have decided to leave it as is. Her communication throughout was friendly, clear and reliable, and her advice about ongoing care was exactly what we needed. Above all, Karen was an absolute delight to have around the house. We would employ her again without hesitation.

The bay window wall at our address was riddled with damp. As a result of Karen's renovation we are going, no doubt, to see such a difference on the inside when winter comes round again. It was, I think, quite a small commission for her but - because of the time that each stage/ layer of a traditional hot lime plastering and rendering process like this takes to settle, dry and harden - and I'm speculating here - it probably entails as many site visits as a job that would involve two or three times the surface area. But she gave it just the same amount of love! Living locally, she was able to accommodate some quite short shifts, charge pro rata (something one might expect but shouldn't assume or take for granted) and on a weekly basis - great for transparency and keeping track. Her care and dedication and openness to communication - both on site and in email - was a delight and an education. From removal of the grim cement render that was on there at the outset to application of the final pebble-dash - quality from start to finish. Let's hope my painting in June can do justice to it.

We had a brilliant experience with Karen, we cannot recommend her enough. Karen replastered our living room in lime plaster. After coming round to quote for the work, she sent a follow up email which was full of information about the proposed programme of work, including explanation of what she'd be doing when and a very clear cost breakdown. This instilled confidence and we felt that Karen was being really transparent. Her quote was also in stark contrast to the very brief quotes we received from others! During the work, Karen was really professional and sensitive of the fact that she was in someone's home. It has been the best experience we've had with any tradesperson to date. Her communication throughout has been fantastic. Given how often Karen needed to pop in to check how the plaster was drying, this never felt like an imposition and we always had clear and prompt messages about when it was convenient to call in. The standard of the work is fantastic - the hand moulded corners round the bay window look amazing. Karen is extremely skilled and knowledgeable about what she does. We encourage anyone to consider her for their lime plastering projects.

Karen did a wonderful job replastering a wall in lime. Her advice was really helpful and I'd recommend her to anyone especially with difficult old buildings!

Karen is that rare craftsperson who not only knows their craft and is a safe pair of hands for fabulous results, but it's a natural collaborator, working equally well solo or as part of a team, as well as communicating brilliantly with her client. She will always discuss anything needed for mutual consideration to lead the process and then will hold all that in mind while she does her magic and works hard. Not everyone you hire will really care about the project and when you find one who does, like Karen, you wish everyone in the trades was like her, the world would be a better place.

Karen did a great job plastering our loft ceiling which is an awkward shape with a number of old beams to work around and poorly accessible crevices. The work was completed more quickly than Karen estimated and the finish was excellent. Karen is completely trustworthy, working in the house in our absence and keeping us involved and informed. The place was spotlessly cleaned up afterwards. I would have no hesitation in recommending her.
