About the company

Liverpool School of Plastering provides practical plastering training for beginners, DIY enthusiasts, tradespeople and those looking to develop new skills. Courses are taught in small groups of four people per class. Courses cover surface preparation, mixing plaster, skimming walls and ceilings, trowel control, finishing techniques, plasterboard installation and basic rendering. Students are given a certificate from the school stating the level they are at; NVQ courses are not offered.

All tools and equipment are supplied during the course; students only need to bring suitable clothing. Courses start at 9am and run until 3pm. The school has helped hundreds of students take their first steps into plastering. Course options include 2-day skimming, 5-day skimming and boarding, 10-day boarding and skimming, weekend plastering, 2-day beginner exterior rendering and 2-day monocouche K-Rend rendering courses.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

People with little or no plastering background, including complete beginners and those planning to renovate their own homes, form the bulk of attendees at this Birchill Rd training centre. Courses run from two days up to ten days and cover priming, beading, mixing plaster to a workable consistency, filling with bonding, dot and dab application, boarding and finishing skim coats on walls and ceilings, with more advanced sessions extending to curved ceilings and window reveals.

Reviewers frequently point to that groups are kept deliberately small, often just three or four people, so practical trowel work begins from day one instead of watching demonstrations from the sidelines. Ben, along with Billy and Mike, are named frequently and described as patient, approachable and quick to offer guidance without taking over the task.

Several people note bringing photographs of their own rooms so instruction could be adapted to their particular project, and others describe finishing the course with enough self-assurance to attempt paid plastering afterwards. A friendly, supportive atmosphere within these small cohorts is another theme that surfaces again and again, alongside the emphasis on doing rather than merely observing. The centre operates every day of the week, with shorter Saturday and Sunday hours, allowing those balancing existing jobs to fit a weekend course around their schedule.

I’ve completed the five day course - an amazing week and I am now ready to plaster walls independently. The nicest people - really welcoming, hands on teaching.

Did the 5-day course a while ago and can’t recommend it enough. Ben, Billy and Mike are all really knowledgeable and make learning easy. I did it for my own house renovation and since then I’ve plastered most of my house myself. Special thanks to Billy for helping me tackle the awkward curved ceilings with confidence. Great course whether you’re renovating your own home or thinking about a career in plastering.

I've just finished day 4 of 10 and wow. The training is spot on, no classroom nonsense sense you will be developing the skill from Day 1 by actually plastering nonstop. By far the best training school for developing this skill. Billy is extremely patient and knowledgeable and a good teacher always showing ways, from experience, how to be even more effective. Amazing!

Can't recommend this school highly enough. Did the 2 day plastering course. Ben is an amazing instructor. Our group was small only 3 of us but Ben, Billy and Mike were super helpful in showing us how to, skim, fill, beading, blending and finish walls and ceilings. They made sure everyone had a turn at mixing the plaster to the correct consistency, the correct timings of how to apply a second skim and how to finish it off to get the perfect finish. My husband and myself both came away fully confident that the work that we need to do on our house can and will be completed to a high standard. Thank you very much guys really appreciate your help this weekend and cant wait to get started on our project. 😀

I recently completed the weekend course at Liverpool School of Plastering and really enjoyed the experience. Ben and Bill were great hosts—very knowledgeable and easy to learn from. The course was very practical and hands-on, which made it perfect for building confidence and actually learning the techniques rather than just watching demonstrations. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their plastering skills or advance their skillset. You’ll definitely benefit from learning from these guys.

Just completed a two day Skimming Course, never plastered in my life, but now feel confident to have a go at home thanks to Ben's excellent tuition. He is professional, and takes time to explain, not over bearing just in the background quietly watching and will step in and help, any questions answered. The small number if students makes it ideal with supporting and encouraging each other "Craig", Ben's employee was there to help and pass knowledge as well. Summing up it was very well worth doing, priced just right, and I have come away confident (not over) to have a go Ben is a very kind and personable. If your are looking to do something like this choose to do it here. You will not be disappointed. Thanks Ben. Cheers Iain Mc
